Introduction
This manual, REF-TM 2064.04.13, contains detailed and thorough information concerning Operation: Mirror Image. As it is later presented in the Chronology of Events section, these phenomenon called Rifts and Ley Lines have become visible on our world ever since the Robotech Masters were defeated on Earth 32 years ago. According to our researchers and some outside sources, these Ley Lines have existed since the Earth was created, maintaining themselves invisiblew for some unknown reason.

In the year 2045, a series of Rifts and Ley Lines were also found in a series of orbits around Earth. Researchers have found that beyond these Rifts, which work as portals to other places, lies a planet similar, if not twin, to our own. At this moment, sensor probes have been sent to the other side to investigate this planet from afar. So far, we, the REF High Command, have high hopes for inhabiting this planet, for a variety of reasons. The main reason is to find a way to halt, if not, diminish, the interdimensional threats that endanger our existence here on our planet. Initial investigations of Rifts on the surface of our Earth indicate that a great majority, if not all of them, lead to this planet.

Another important reason is to increase our knowledge in many scientific fields. Interviews with many survivors of encounters with beings who have trespased a Rift indicate that these have a great deal of weapons, armor and equipment the likes which we have never been seen. Also, previously realized autopsies reveal that some of these beings have been implanted with mechano-electronic limbs, body organs and extensions, such as weapons and enhancements. The thought of having such an item connected to one's flesh and bone might seem repulsive, yet this means that the people in this world have the technology to restore and heal previously incurable diseases and conditions and, also, the ability to extend the lifespan of a human being.

That is why the United Earth Goverment, in conjuction with top military advisors from the Robotech Expeditionary Force and with support from the Sentinels Alliance, have decided to implement Operation: Mirror Image. This large scale military operation will allow us to explore and learn more about the world that lies beyond the Rifts, its people and culture, its history and progress, its advancements, its needs, and its future. New lessons are to be learned, new people are to be met, new technologies are to be obtained.

Needless to say, it will not be a mission with a preset time limit. The discovered world is a vast unknown. Even with all the time in the world, we are never going to learn all that there is to be learned about this world. And that's what we are gonna do. We are gonna learn the most we can and we will keep learning about this world. And, surely, what we will learn from this new world will benefit us, mankind, a great deal. And to you, soldier, the one who is going to make this mission possible, thank you and Godspeed.
